Water glistening as it boils,

 Water glistening as it boils,

Phone in my hands—
I hyperventilate as I saw a text from my lover.
Heart aches as the seams loosen.

We were finally in the same city—
But I could never speak to you,
Not even on the phone.
Cause it is what it is, every time—
Even in my dreams.

My morning affirmation is "Don't think about her."
Familiarity is the poison I drink as tea.
My hands clinging as my heart beats faster.
Promises have always been useless, yet I cling to them like a drug dealer.
